Dear Vendors,
It’s difficult to believe that another year has come and
gone already, but here we are. Soon we will be holding our 60th
Anniversary “Old Miners' Days” celebration,
and we hope that you will join us here in beautiful Big Bear Valley.
Because this season marks such a milestone in the history of our
celebration, and because of our continuing efforts to improve our
events, we have made several changes this year that we hope will
make this season more memorable for both our guests and participants
alike.
The Old Miners' Association has joined forces with the Big Bear
Valley Renaissance Society for the cooperative production of the
“1800’s Country Fair and Logger’s Jubilee”.
This event will be held at the historic Pedersen Saw Mill site in
Fawnskin, California. Dates for this event are set for July 18 and
19, 2009. This will be a “period” event, with all of
the participants doing their part to create the atmosphere of a
19th Century mining camp festival. Vendors interested in participating
in this event should contact Lynda McGinnis @ (909) 237-0448 for
more information. You may also download forms and applications directly
from the event website at: www.fawnskinvictorian.com
The annual Old Miners Days “Chili Cook-off”,
and the “Clementine Pageant” have been
scheduled for consecutive dates this year, which affords vendors
the opportunity for either a one or two day event. Both events will
be held at the Bartlett Road public parking lot in the Big Bear
Lake Village. The Chili Cook-off will open our season on July 11,
and will be followed by the Clementine Pageant on July 12, 2009.
We are encouraging vendors and other event participants to make
an effort to make their booths and costuming as “old west”
as possible, but this is not a requirement. Please keep in mind
that the event site is an asphalt parking lot. Freestanding booths
are highly recommended as the area available for setting up historic
style tents and canopies requiring stakes cannot be guaranteed.
On August 1 and 2, 2009 we will be holding the inaugural “Thunder
in Paradise” event at the corner of Pine Knot and
Village Drive. Numerous “Old West” vendors will have
an opportunity to offer their wares, while gunfighters from the
Reenactment Guild of America perform for the passing crowd, and
compete for $1000 in prize money on Saturday. On Sunday our season
wraps up with the annual “Old Miner’s Days Parade”,
which will be passing directly in front of the event site, and the
crowd should be spectacular! Space is limited for this event, so
reserve a spot soon! Competition will run from 11am-4pm. General
event hours for vendors are 10am-6pm.
On behalf of all of Big Bear, we hope that you will join our celebration,
and we welcome those both old and new to be a part of our “Old
Miners” family, and we look forward to another sixty years
of memories.
Sincerely,
Tony Sundvall, President
Old Miner’s Association
